    What 500MB actually covers

Free data allowances are easier to judge in hours than in megabytes. Rough real-world estimates for 500MB:

    ActivityRoughly how far 500MB goes
Maps and navigation8-10 hours of turn-by-turn directions
Messaging (text, no media)Weeks of normal use
Web browsing and emailAround 250 pages
Social feedsAbout 1.5-2 hours of scrolling
Video callsRoughly 1 hour at standard quality
Streaming videoAbout 1 hour at 480p, far less at HD

It is enough to land, get connected, and get where you are going — which is what a trial is for. For a full trip, browse plans by destination or compare price per GB on the pricing page.

    Free eSIM FAQ

Is there a free eSIM trial with unlimited data?
No — not from us, and we would be cautious about anyone advertising one. Wanderly gives first-time users 500MB free with no credit card required. Offers marketing themselves as free unlimited eSIM data are usually either a paid plan with a trial period that auto-bills, a heavily throttled connection, or a referral scheme that requires purchases. 500MB is enough to land, get a taxi, message home, and load maps while you decide whether to buy a full plan.
Do I need a credit card for the free eSIM?
No. There is no payment method required to claim the free 500MB, nothing is stored, and there is no subscription to cancel afterwards. You only enter payment details if you later choose to buy a paid plan.
How much data do I get free?
500MB. That covers roughly 8-10 hours of maps and messaging, or about 1 hour of standard-definition video. It is intended as a genuine try-before-you-buy, not as a full travel plan.
Who can claim the free eSIM?
First-time Wanderly users. The offer is limited to one per account and one per device, ever, and there is a daily cap on total claims. If you have claimed before on the same phone, it will not be offered again.
Which countries does the free eSIM work in?
You choose your destination when you claim it, from the countries available in the free tier at that time. Our paid catalog covers 200+ countries and regions — you can browse the full destination list before deciding.
Which phones support a free eSIM trial?
Any eSIM-capable phone: iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S, Note and Fold models. The eSIM runs as a second line, so your normal number keeps working for calls and texts. You can check your specific model with our compatibility checker.
Is the free eSIM available on Android?
The Wanderly Android app is not published yet, so the free claim is currently iOS only. Android users can still buy any paid plan on the website and install it the same way — the eSIM itself works identically on Android.
What happens when the free data runs out?
Nothing is charged automatically. The eSIM simply stops passing data. You can top it up or buy a full plan from your account if you want to keep going.
