Italian urban coverage is excellent and 5G is common in Rome, Milan, Florence and Naples. The honest weak spots are vertical rather than remote: the Amalfi coast road drops signal between headlands, the Dolomites and Gran Sasso lose it in valleys, and some of the hill towns in Umbria and Basilicata are thinner than their popularity suggests. Sardinian and Sicilian interiors are patchier than the coasts.

How travellers actually use data here
Italy is a maps-and-restaurant-research trip. Heavy Maps use in cities that were not designed for grid navigation, museum ticket apps, and steady photo uploads. Train travel means intermittent signal but rarely a real outage.
Routing: Traffic breaks out in France or the Netherlands. Within the EU that is unremarkable — you are still inside the same regulatory bloc, and Italian sites behave normally.
