The verdict for Kenya
Two facts pull against each other here. Kenya costs us about $2.10 per gigabyte at best, close to five times our European rate — that favours unlimited. But a safari week consumes maybe 3 to 5 GB, because you spend the day in a vehicle looking at animals rather than a screen — that favours per-gigabyte, decisively.
Multiply it out and a typical safari's data cost on our plans is small. Unlimited would have to be priced very aggressively to beat that, and it is not what unlimited is for.
The honest exception is the traveller whose Kenya trip is not a safari: a month in Nairobi working remotely, or a photographer uploading full-resolution files daily from the field rather than waiting for lodge Wi-Fi. Those are real and their usage looks nothing like the median. There is a second point in Holafly's favour worth stating: our Kenya plans are 4G-only, so if you want 5G in Nairobi you should look elsewhere, and that is a limitation of our catalogue rather than of the per-gigabyte model.

Safari travel is photo-heavy and streaming-light. Long stretches in a vehicle with the phone down, then a burst of uploading in the evening — often over lodge Wi-Fi, which has improved a lot.
Check the exact plan's terms for activation, hotspot and top-ups. Do not infer its mobile network or IP location from country coverage.
When to consider Wanderly in Kenya

Holafly took a different bet from most of the category: instead of selling gigabytes, it sells days of unlimited data. That removes the part of buying a travel eSIM that people most dislike — guessing how much data they will use — and it is a legitimately better experience for heavy users. The trade-off is that you pay for the certainty whether you need it or not.

How much data does a safari actually use?
Usually 3 to 5 GB for a week to ten days. Game drives are screen-free by nature and most uploading happens in the evening, often over lodge Wi-Fi.
Is unlimited data worth it in Kenya?
For safari travel, no — the usage is too low for the premium to pay off even at Kenyan per-gigabyte rates. For a long working stay in Nairobi, it becomes a reasonable option.
Do Wanderly Kenya plans have 5G?
Check the selected offer's listed network type. We have not verified 5G access across the Kenya catalogue, and city-level 5G coverage does not establish that a particular travel plan can use it.
Will unlimited help in the northern circuit or Samburu?
No. Coverage in Samburu, Turkana and the far north is genuinely sparse, and no plan type creates signal where there is no tower. Download offline maps.
Do either provide a Kenyan number for M-Pesa?
Holafly is data-only, so no. We do sell Kenya plans that include calls and texts, but their number is assigned after purchase and may not be Kenyan, and M-Pesa needs a Kenyan one — so neither option makes M-Pesa usable. Bring a payment card.
