Planning coverage in Thailand
Thailand punches well above its income level on mobile infrastructure. Bangkok has dense 5G, and coverage on Phuket, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and the mainland beach towns is strong. It degrades in the obvious places: the smaller Andaman and Gulf islands, the jungle in Khao Sok and Khao Yai, boat crossings, and the hill country up towards the Myanmar border.

Long stays and a lot of tethering. Thailand has more remote workers per square kilometre of coworking space than almost anywhere, and their consumption looks nothing like a two-week holiday.

Will my eSIM work on the islands?
On Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, yes, comfortably. The smaller Andaman and Gulf islands are patchier, and boat crossings drop out in the middle. That applies to any provider — the networks are the same underneath.
Does a Thai breakout IP actually matter?
We have not verified local breakout or app compatibility for every Thailand offer. A local IP does not guarantee access. Confirm the exact plan with support and check account or phone-number requirements with the service.
Is this enough for working remotely from Chiang Mai?
Yes. We sell up to 50 GB on a single Thailand plan with validity out to 180 days, and some plans can be topped up. The plan page shows top-up and hotspot terms, so check both before relying on a laptop connection. Thai network speeds in Chiang Mai are more than adequate for video calls.
Do I get a Thai phone number?
Airalo's Thailand packages are data-only. Ours include Calls & texts options that come with a number, but it is assigned after purchase and may not be a Thai one — which is the part that matters for Grab and delivery apps that want to SMS a local number. Keep your home number reachable for those.
