An ICCID is the serial number of a SIM profile — the physical SIM card in your tray, or an eSIM plan installed on your phone. It is usually 19 or 20 digits long and starts with 89. Support teams ask for it because it identifies exactly which SIM or eSIM plan they are looking at.
Short answer: on iPhone, go to Settings → General → About and scroll to ICCID. On most Android phones, go to Settings → About phone → SIM status. For a travel eSIM, the ICCID is also in your provider's app or account.
What ICCID stands for
ICCID means Integrated Circuit Card Identifier. The format comes from the ITU-T E.118 standard, and every ICCID is built the same way:
| Part | What it means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 89 | Industry code for telecommunications — almost every ICCID starts with it | `89` |
| Country code | The country of the issuing operator (1–3 digits) | `1` for the US and Canada, `44` for the UK |
| Issuer | The operator or SIM vendor that issued the profile | varies |
| Account number | The individual SIM or eSIM profile | varies |
| Check digit | The final digit, which catches typos (Luhn algorithm) | one digit |
The country code is the issuer's country, not where the SIM works. A travel eSIM used in Japan can have an ICCID from a European or Asian operator — that is normal and says nothing about coverage.
How to find your ICCID
On iPhone
- 1Open Settings.
- 2Tap General → About.
- 3Scroll down. Each active line (physical SIM or eSIM) has its own section with its ICCID.
- 4Press and hold the number to copy it.
If you have two lines, check that you are reading the section for the right one — look at the carrier name above the ICCID.
On Android
The path varies by brand and Android version:
- Google Pixel: Settings → About phone → SIM status → choose the SIM → ICCID.
- Samsung Galaxy: Settings → About phone → Status information → SIM card status → ICCID.
- Other Android phones: Settings → About phone → SIM status (or Status), then pick the SIM.
Some Android phones do not show the ICCID for an eSIM at all. If you can't find it, use your provider's app or account instead.
On a physical SIM card
The ICCID is printed on the plastic card the SIM came in, and often on the SIM itself in very small digits.
For a Wanderly eSIM
Sign in, open My eSIMs and select the eSIM. The ICCID is listed in the eSIM details. It is also the number our support team uses to look up an order, so having it ready speeds up any help request.
What does *not* show it
Dialing \*#06# shows your IMEI and, on many phones, your EID — but not the ICCID.
ICCID vs EID vs IMEI vs IMSI
These four numbers are easy to confuse:
| Identifier | Identifies | Length | Changes? |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICCID | One SIM card or eSIM profile | 19–20 digits (up to 22) | New one for every SIM or eSIM |
| EID | The eSIM chip in your phone | 32 digits | Never — one per device |
| IMEI | The phone itself | 15 digits | Never — one per device (two on dual-SIM phones) |
| IMSI | Your subscription on the mobile network | Up to 15 digits | Set by the operator; not normally shown to you |
One phone has one EID, but over time it can hold many eSIM profiles — each with its own ICCID. For the full EID explanation, see what an EID number is.
When you need your ICCID
- Contacting support about an eSIM that won't install or won't connect.
- Checking usage or adding a top-up with some providers, which look up the plan by ICCID.
- Telling two eSIMs apart when several plans from the same provider are installed.
- Carrier tasks such as activating a replacement SIM or porting a number.
You don't need it to buy a travel eSIM. You install the plan from a QR code or an in-app link, and the ICCID comes with it.
Does the ICCID change?
- Topping up an existing eSIM: usually the ICCID stays the same, because the data is added to the same profile.
- Buying a new eSIM: you get a new profile with a new ICCID.
- Deleting an eSIM: that ICCID is gone from your phone. Most travel eSIMs can't be reinstalled after deletion — see what happens when you delete an eSIM.
- Moving to a new phone: depending on the provider, a transfer either keeps the profile or issues a new one — see how to transfer an eSIM.
Is it safe to share your ICCID?
Share it with your carrier or eSIM provider when they ask; they need it. Don't post it publicly. The number alone can't install your eSIM, but together with your name and phone number it is the kind of account detail used in SIM-swap scams. Never share an eSIM's QR code or activation code with anyone — that is what actually installs the plan.
FAQ
What is an ICCID number? The ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier) is the unique serial number of a SIM card or eSIM profile. It usually has 19 or 20 digits and starts with 89.
How do I find my ICCID on iPhone? Go to Settings → General → About and scroll to the section for your SIM or eSIM line. The ICCID is listed there.
How do I find my ICCID on Android? On most phones, go to Settings → About phone → SIM status and select the SIM. On Samsung, it's under Status information → SIM card status.
Is the ICCID the same as the SIM card number? Yes. "SIM card number", "SIM serial number" and ICCID usually mean the same thing. It is not your phone number.
Is the ICCID the same as the EID? No. The EID identifies the eSIM chip in your phone and never changes. The ICCID identifies one SIM profile, and each new eSIM has a new one.
Why does my travel eSIM's ICCID have a different country code? The ICCID shows where the issuing operator is registered, not where the plan works. Coverage depends on the plan, not the ICCID.
Does *#06# show the ICCID? No. It shows the IMEI and, on many phones, the EID.
Before you buy a travel eSIM
Check your exact model on the eSIM compatibility checker, then browse plans by destination. Installation takes a QR scan, and the ICCID is waiting in your account if you ever need support.
