Wanderly vs Holafly for a Turkey eSIM
Turkey has the lowest typical price per gigabyte of any country in our catalogue, and that fact decides most of this comparison before anything else is considered.

The verdict for Turkey
Holafly sells unlimited daily data. That model earns its keep in expensive markets where a gigabyte is dear and running out is a real risk. Turkey is the opposite kind of market. Our Turkey data bottoms out around thirty-six cents a gigabyte, and its median plan is the cheapest per gigabyte of any country we sell, which means the arithmetic that makes unlimited attractive elsewhere does not hold here.
Put concretely: a fortnight in Turkey on maps, translation, messaging and generous photo upload lands most people between six and ten gigabytes. Buying comfortably past that costs very little at Turkish rates. You are paying a flat daily rate to remove a risk that is already cheap to remove outright.
The other structural difference is trip shape. Turkey attracts long, slow itineraries — Istanbul then the coast, or a month split between cities and Cappadocia — and our validity windows run to 180 days. An unlimited daily plan is priced per day whether you are moving or sitting still for a week.
We don't publish Holafly's prices — we have no live feed for them, so anything we quoted would go stale. Check their site for current pricing; the figures above are our own.
Coverage in Turkey
Turkey is better covered than most visitors expect. Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and the whole Antalya coast have dense 4G with widespread 5G, and Turkcell in particular pushes coverage well beyond the tourist strip. Cappadocia is comfortably covered, including most of the balloon launch fields. The genuine gaps are eastern: the mountains around Kaçkar and Ararat, stretches of the Black Sea hinterland, and the emptier parts of the southeast. Long sections of the Lycian Way lose signal between villages.
Local networks: Turkcell, Vodafone Türkiye and Türk Telekom
How travellers actually use data here
Turkish itineraries are navigation-heavy and long. A lot of trips combine an Istanbul city stretch with a coastal or Cappadocia leg, which means constant Maps, a translation app, ferry and bus apps, and steady photo upload. Multi-week stays are common, so validity tends to matter as much as allowance.
Routing: Our Turkey plans break out in the Netherlands. That is mostly invisible, but Turkish banking apps and some government portals are noticeably strict about apparent location, so expect an occasional extra verification step if you are moving money.
When Wanderly is the better buy in Turkey
- ✓Ordinary travel use, where Turkish per-GB pricing makes unlimited poor value
- ✓Long or slow trips, where a 180-day window beats paying by the day
- ✓You want to buy a precise allowance rather than a subscription
- ✓You would rather receive a QR by email than manage a plan in an app
When Holafly is the better buy
- •You genuinely stream video daily and do not want to think about an allowance at all
- •You are working remotely and tethering a laptop for full days at a stretch
- •You value never checking a data figure more than you value the price difference
Holafly took a different bet from most of the category: instead of selling gigabytes, it sells days of unlimited data. That removes the part of buying a travel eSIM that people most dislike — guessing how much data they will use — and it is a legitimately better experience for heavy users. The trade-off is that you pay for the certainty whether you need it or not.
Turkey vs Holafly — common questions
How much data does two weeks in Turkey actually use?
Six to ten gigabytes for most people — heavy Maps use, a translation app several times an hour, ferry and bus apps, and photo upload. Hotels and cafés have widely available Wi-Fi that absorbs a good share of the rest.
Is coverage good in Cappadocia and along the coast?
Yes. Turkcell in particular covers Cappadocia comfortably, including most balloon launch fields, and the Antalya coast is dense. The real gaps are the eastern mountains and stretches of the Lycian Way.
Will Turkish banking apps work on either provider?
Both are foreign-routed data, so both can trigger a location check. Our Turkey traffic breaks out in the Netherlands, and Turkish banking and government portals are stricter than most about this — expect an occasional extra verification step rather than a refusal.
