The verdict for Vietnam
Our Vietnamese catalogue runs from 1 GB up to 50 GB, with daily passes alongside fixed allowances and validity out to 180 days. Several of the daily plans carry a 1 Mbps fair-use cap after the day's allowance, which we name in the plan itself rather than in a footnote. The fixed-data plans have no such cap.
On price the honest position is that Vietnam is mid-table for us — about a dollar a gigabyte at the 20 GB tier, dearer than the US, Turkey or France. Airalo's Vietnam packages are competitive and well made. Neither of us is dramatically undercutting the other here, and a comparison claiming otherwise would be inventing a gap.
So the real differences are range and delivery. We have more distinct shapes for the same country, which matters on a long north-to-south itinerary. Airalo has the app, the accumulated credit and a regional Asia bundle that may cover Vietnam alongside everywhere else you are going.

Coverage in Vietnam
Better than most visitors expect. Coverage is dense along the entire coastal corridor from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, through the Mekong Delta, and in Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang. 4G is near-universal and cheap locally, which is why the infrastructure is good. The real gaps are the northern mountains — Ha Giang, Sapa and the passes around them — where signal comes and goes with the terrain.

How travellers actually use data here
Maps, Grab, translation and a great deal of photo upload. Vietnam is a photographed country and allowances go on images more than video. Café and hotel Wi-Fi is widespread and absorbs a meaningful share.
Routing: Vietnamese traffic breaks out in Hong Kong. Latency is low enough to be unremarkable across the region, and Vietnamese sites behave normally. Worth knowing separately: several of our Vietnamese daily plans carry a 1 Mbps fair-use cap after the day's allowance, which is named in the plan itself.

Do both work on Vietnamese 4G and 5G?
Yes. Our Vietnam plans run on the major networks with 4G throughout and 5G in the larger cities. Coverage along the coastal corridor is dense.
Which of your Vietnam plans are throttled?
The daily plans whose names include FUP1Mbps drop to 1 Mbps once the day's allowance is spent. The fixed-data plans — 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB, 20 GB, 50 GB — run at full speed for the whole allowance.
Does either give me a Vietnamese phone number?
No. Vietnam is one of the destinations where we do not yet have a Calls & texts plan, so our Vietnam plans are data-only, as are theirs. Some Vietnamese services, Grab included in certain flows, want a local number for SMS verification — that still needs a physical local SIM.
