"Not activating" covers two very different problems: the profile will not download onto the phone, or the profile is installed but will not connect. Identify which one you have first — the fixes are unrelated.
Installed but no internet: four connection checks
At your destination, confirm the plan covers your location and has data and validity remaining. Keep the eSIM installed while troubleshooting.
- Enable Data Roaming for the Wanderly eSIM and select it for mobile data. Keep data roaming off for your home SIM.
- If the current network gives you trouble, turn off automatic network selection and try another network listed for your plan. Allow a minute for each connection attempt.
- Temporarily turn off other SIMs/eSIMs in SIM settings, leaving Wanderly enabled. This pauses calls and texts on those lines; turn them back on after testing. Do not delete any eSIM.
- Restart your phone, then turn Wi-Fi off briefly to test mobile data at your destination.
Manual network selection on your phone
Try a supported network listed in your plan details. If no networks are shown, ask Wanderly support which to choose.
- iPhone: Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service) > Wanderly eSIM > Network Selection > turn Automatic off.
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators > turn Select automatically off for the travel line.
- Pixel: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Wanderly eSIM > turn Automatically select network off. Menu names vary by phone.
If the profile will not download
- Switch off any VPN and try again.
- Move off captive-portal Wi-Fi (hotels, airports) to a home network or personal hotspot.
- Check the activation code has not already been used — codes are single-install.
- Confirm the phone is eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked.
- Restart the phone and retry once before requesting a reissue.
If the profile is installed but there is no service
- Confirm the line is switched on in your cellular settings.
- Turn on Data Roaming for that line — travel eSIMs require it.
- Set the eSIM as your Cellular/Mobile Data line.
- Toggle airplane mode for 15 seconds.
- Reset the APN to default instead of typing one in.
- Turn off automatic network selection and try another supported network listed for your plan.
Still nothing
Check the plan's status: some travel plans only activate on first connection in the destination country, and a plan whose validity has expired behaves exactly like a broken profile. If you see a PDP authentication failure, follow that guide specifically.
If none of the above helps, contact support with your ICCID, the exact error text and a screenshot of your cellular settings — that combination usually resolves it in one reply.
Frequently asked questions
Why won't my eSIM activate?
Most often: the download was blocked by a VPN or captive-portal Wi-Fi, the code was already used, roaming is off for that line, or the phone is carrier-locked.
How long should activation take?
The download takes 30–90 seconds. Connecting to a local network after landing takes another minute or two.
Can I get a new QR code?
Yes — providers can reissue a profile against the same plan. Do not delete the old profile until the new code arrives.
Still stuck? Our team can reissue or diagnose your profile.
