Installation is a one-time, two-minute job, and it is much easier at home on your own Wi-Fi than in an arrivals hall. Install before you fly — the plan itself does not start until you connect at your destination.
Before you start
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi. Avoid hotel and airport captive portals, which can block the download.
- Turn off any VPN.
- Have the QR code open on a second screen, or use the direct install link on the phone itself.
Install
- iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code. Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add eSIM.
- Scan the code, or tap Enter Details Manually and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
- Wait for the profile to download — typically 30–90 seconds.
- Give the line a clear label such as "Travel".
Settings to check afterwards
- Cellular Data is set to the new line (do this after you land, not before).
- Data Roaming is ON for the travel line — a travel eSIM needs it.
- Your home line stays on for calls and SMS, with its own data roaming OFF.
- iPhone only: turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching so the phone cannot fall back to your home line.
Frequently asked questions
Can I install an eSIM before I travel?
Yes, and you should. The profile downloads over Wi-Fi and the plan's validity usually starts when you first connect at your destination.
Can I scan the same QR code twice?
No. eSIM QR codes are single-install. If you need it on another phone, ask for a reissued profile.
Nothing happens after installing — why?
Check that data roaming is on for the travel line and that it is selected as your data line, then restart the phone.
