Istanbul city break
Match your data allowance to maps, messaging and ride-hailing, then check validity against your arrival and departure dates. Compare the full price rather than the price per GB alone.
Cappadocia or a coastal road trip
Check network details for the selected offer and keep maps and reservations available offline. A country coverage entry does not establish signal on every road or in every valley.
Turkey and another country
Do not assume a Europe bundle includes Turkey. Verify Turkey and every other stop in the exact offer's country list, then compare that total with separate country plans.
Open the current plan's details before buying: check validity, activation timing, coverage, hotspot rules and any fair-use limits. Calls and texts are included only when stated for that plan.
🇹🇷 About eSIMs in Turkey
Turkey has a phone-registration rule worth knowing before a long stay. Turkey's official ALO 123 consumer line says phones brought from abroad can be used for 120 days without being registered, and an unregistered phone is then blocked from communication services. It does not say how this applies to a foreign eSIM roaming in Turkey, and we cannot confirm that, so check before planning a stay that long. The main networks are Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom; current plans list them in different combinations, and the plan details show which ones apply.
Coverage is excellent in Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum and along the Turquoise Coast. You will use BiTaksi (Istanbul's Uber) for taxis, Trendyol or Getir for food, WhatsApp for guesthouse hosts, and Google Maps for the tangled streets of Sultanahmet. Plan on 10–12 GB per week; hot-air balloon photographers in Cappadocia should expect to burn more because of constant uploads.
Airport SIMs at Istanbul (IST) exist but are expensive and often require paperwork. Skip it.
How to activate your eSIM in Turkey
- 1Time the installationCheck the selected plan's start rule. If it starts on its first network connection and allows installation before travel, install it over reliable Wi-Fi before you fly; if it starts at installation, install it when you need it.
- 2Enable on arrivalAt IST, SAW or AYT, switch data to the Turkey eSIM and enable Data Roaming.
- 3Install BiTaksiBiTaksi is the primary taxi app in Istanbul. Uber operates a smaller footprint in Turkey.
- 4Save Cappadocia offlineBalloon-launch points and Goreme valley trails occasionally drop signal — save offline maps for peace of mind.
Turkey eSIM FAQ
Do I need to register my phone's IMEI?
Not for a visit under 120 days, going by the official guidance. Turkey's ALO 123 consumer line says phones brought from abroad can be used for 120 days without being registered, and are then blocked from communication services. It does not say how this applies to a foreign eSIM roaming in Turkey, and we cannot confirm that, so check before staying that long.
Which network does it use?
It depends on the plan. Current Turkey plans list Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom in different combinations. The plan details show the network where one is named, so check them before you buy if it matters to you.
Will it work in Cappadocia during balloon flights?
Signal is strong on the ground at launch points. In-flight coverage is patchy — that is a geography issue, not the eSIM.
Does it work on the Turquoise Coast (Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye)?
The main resort towns generally have 4G, with weaker signal on remote stretches of the coast. Signal depends on the network your plan lists.
How much data for 10 days in Turkey?
12–15 GB. Add more if you upload constant photos from Cappadocia.
