How to check and set APN details for a travel eSIM

An Access Point Name, or APN, tells a mobile network which gateway your data session should use. Most Wanderly eSIMs configure it automatically, so you should not type a guessed value into the APN field.

Check the APN when the eSIM has signal but cannot load data, or when a PDP authentication error appears. Use the exact value supplied with your plan if manual setup is required.

    Before changing anything

    • Confirm the Wanderly eSIM is selected for mobile data and data roaming is on for that line.
    • Take a screenshot of the current APN screen so you can undo a change.
    • Check your plan details or usage information for an APN value. If no APN is supplied, automatic configuration is expected.
    • Leave username, password, proxy, port, server, and authentication type blank unless your plan explicitly provides them.

    Check APN on iPhone

    1. Open Settings > Cellular or Mobile Service.
    2. Select the Wanderly eSIM, then open Cellular Data Network or Mobile Data Network if that option is available.
    3. Enter the supplied APN under Cellular Data exactly as written. APN values are usually lowercase and contain no spaces.
    4. Return to the previous screen, toggle Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, then test mobile data.

    Check APN on Android

    1. Open Settings > Network & Internet or Connections > Mobile Network.
    2. Select the Wanderly eSIM and open Access Point Names.
    3. Choose Reset to default first. If your plan supplies a manual APN, create a new entry with the exact name and APN value.
    4. Save the entry, select it, toggle Airplane Mode, and test the connection.

When APN is not the problem

If the APN is already correct, check plan coverage, remaining data, network selection, and data roaming. A blank APN screen can also be normal on phones where the carrier profile manages it automatically.

    Frequently asked questions

    What APN should I use?

Use only the value supplied with your specific plan. There is no single APN that works for every Wanderly eSIM.

Should I enter a username and password?

Leave them blank unless your plan instructions explicitly provide values.

Why can I not edit APN on iPhone?

Some carrier profiles hide or lock the menu because the APN is configured automatically.

What is a PDP authentication failure?

It means the network refused to create a mobile data session, often because the APN or roaming settings are wrong.

If your plan exposes a live APN, refresh its usage details before entering anything manually.
