If your eSIM is not working and shows No Service, SOS, bars without internet, or unusually slow data, the profile is often installed correctly but one connection setting is wrong. Work through these fixes in order; most problems are solved before the advanced steps.
Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting. Many eSIM profiles can only be downloaded once, so deleting it can turn a settings problem into a replacement request.
The first five fixes when an eSIM is not working
- Confirm you are inside the plan's coverage area. A country plan usually cannot connect before you arrive at that destination.
- Open SIM or Cellular settings and turn the Wanderly eSIM line on.
- Set the Wanderly eSIM as the active line for Mobile Data or Cellular Data.
- Turn Data Roaming on for the travel eSIM, while leaving data roaming off for your home SIM.
- Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, turn it off, and wait up to two minutes for the phone to register again.
If you have signal but no internet
Bars only show that the phone can see a network. Mobile data still fails if the wrong SIM is selected, the APN is wrong, or the plan has not started.
- Temporarily turn off other SIMs so the phone cannot switch data back to your home line.
- Check your Wanderly usage page to confirm the plan has data remaining and has not expired.
- Reset the travel eSIM's APN to its default. Only enter an APN manually when your plan details or support team provides one.
- Disable a VPN or Private Relay temporarily. Re-enable it after the mobile connection works.
If the connection is slow or unstable
- Move outdoors or away from thick walls, elevators, underground stations, and crowded venues.
- Change Preferred Network Type from 5G Auto to 4G/LTE. A strong LTE signal can outperform weak 5G.
- Turn automatic network selection off and try the supported networks shown in your plan instructions, waiting about 30 seconds after each choice.
- Check whether a daily high-speed allowance has been used. Some daily plans continue at a reduced speed after the allowance is reached.
- Restart the phone after changing APN or network-selection settings.
What to send support
If the eSIM still cannot connect, send support your order number, current country and city, phone model, the last eight digits of the ICCID, and screenshots of the SIM, data roaming, APN, and network-selection screens. Mention every step you already tried so the team can skip repeated checks.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my eSIM show bars but have no internet?
The phone can see a network but may have the wrong data line selected, data roaming turned off, an incorrect APN, or no remaining plan data.
Should I delete and reinstall the eSIM?
No. Do not delete it unless Wanderly support explicitly tells you to. Many QR codes are single-use and cannot reinstall the profile.
Why does 5G feel slower than LTE?
A weak or congested 5G signal can be less stable than strong LTE. Selecting 4G/LTE temporarily often improves the connection.
Can I choose a network manually?
Yes. Turn off automatic network selection and try only the networks supported by your plan, waiting about 30 seconds for each registration attempt.
Still offline after every check? Include screenshots and your order number so support can diagnose it faster.
