Denmark is small, flat and almost completely covered by 4G and 5G. The two things that catch travellers out are both about crossing borders: the Øresund Bridge to Malmö, where phones switch to Swedish networks, and the Faroe Islands and Greenland, which are part of the Danish realm but are not in the EU and have their own networks.

Short answer: a 5GB Denmark plan with 30-day validity covers most trips. Visiting Malmö too? Use a plan that covers Sweden. Going to the Faroes or Greenland? You need a plan that lists them specifically.

What a Denmark eSIM costs

At the time of writing (October 2026), Wanderly's Denmark plans start at $2.99 for 1GB, with 5GB for 30 days around $5 and 10GB for 30 days around $8. The median across data-only Denmark plans is about $0.80 per GB — well under the $1.43 median across 187 countries in the Wanderly eSIM Price Index.

Do you need an eSIM with your phone plan?

EU plans roam in Denmark at domestic rates, subject to fair use. UK, US and Canadian plans usually charge for roaming — see eSIM vs international plan.

Border crossings to watch

  • Copenhagen to Malmö: on the Øresund Bridge and around Kastrup airport, phones can switch to Swedish networks. Fine on an EU plan, but a Denmark-only eSIM will not work in Sweden. See the best eSIM for Sweden.
  • The German border: around Flensburg and Padborg, phones can join German networks.
  • Faroe Islands and Greenland: separate networks outside the EU. A Denmark plan does not cover them, and EU roaming rules do not apply. Check plan coverage before you go.

Networks and coverage

Denmark's networks include TDC, Telenor, Telia and 3. Travel eSIMs connect to a partner network automatically.

  • Copenhagen (including the Metro): excellent 4G and 5G.
  • Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg: excellent.
  • Skagen, the west coast and Bornholm: good.
  • Trains and ferries: good on the main lines; ferries to Bornholm and the smaller islands can lose signal mid-crossing.
