Don't Panic — Most eSIM Issues Have Simple Fixes
eSIM technology is reliable, but occasionally things don't go as planned. Before contacting support, try these solutions for the most common issues.
1. eSIM Won't Install
Symptoms: QR code scans but nothing happens, or you get an error message.
- Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection during installation
- Check that your device supports eSIM (iPhone XS or newer, Pixel 3+, Samsung S20+)
- Make sure your device isn't carrier-locked
- Try scanning the QR code from the email rather than a screenshot
2. "This Code Is No Longer Valid"
Symptoms: Error when scanning the QR code.
- Each QR code can typically only be scanned once
- If you deleted the eSIM, contact support for a new QR code
- Check if the eSIM was already installed on another device
3. No Data Connection After Installation
Symptoms: eSIM is installed but shows "No Service" or no data.
- Enable Data Roaming in your cellular settings
- Set the eSIM as the active data line
- Restart your phone
- Wait 1-2 minutes after landing — network registration can take time
4. Slow Speeds
Symptoms: Connected but painfully slow.
- Toggle airplane mode on and off
- Manually select a different network operator in Settings > Cellular > Network Selection
- Move to an area with better coverage
- Check if you've exceeded your data allowance (speeds may throttle)
5. eSIM Disappeared After Update
Symptoms: After a software update, the eSIM is gone.
- Go to Settings > Cellular — the eSIM should still be listed
- If truly gone, you'll need to reinstall using the original QR code
- Contact support if you no longer have the QR code
6. Can't Make Phone Calls
Symptoms: Data works but calls don't go through.
- Most travel eSIMs are data-only — this is normal
- Use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or other VoIP apps for calls
- If you need a local number, look for voice-enabled eSIM plans
7. Dual SIM Conflicts
Symptoms: Your primary SIM stops working after adding eSIM.
- Go to Settings > Cellular and configure which line handles calls, texts, and data
- Set your eSIM as the data line and keep your primary SIM for calls
- Some older devices may need a restart after configuration
8. "Cellular Plan Cannot Be Added"
Symptoms: Error during eSIM setup on iPhone.
- Update to the latest iOS version
- Reset network settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset Network Settings)
- Contact your carrier to ensure eSIM isn't blocked on your account
9. eSIM Won't Activate in My Country
Symptoms: Error saying the eSIM can't be activated in your current location.
- Some eSIMs are designed to activate only in the destination country
- Try activating when you arrive, or use a VPN to the destination country
- Check the plan details — some allow pre-installation before travel
10. Data Usage Tracking Seems Wrong
Symptoms: Your phone shows different usage than the eSIM provider.
- Phone tracking and provider tracking may not sync in real-time
- Background apps can consume significant data — check per-app usage
- Disable automatic updates, cloud backups, and background app refresh while roaming
