Calls and SMS depend on the selected plan. Install using the supplied QR code and keep your home number on its own line. Activation timing varies by plan; check your selected plan's terms before purchasing or installing.

Choose a Portugal eSIM for your itinerary
A weekend or a longer stay
Choose validity for the full trip, then estimate the data you will use away from Wi-Fi. Compare a smaller fixed-data plan with a larger allowance using their total prices. Check whether your chosen plan can be topped up rather than assuming every Portugal offer supports it.
Madeira, the Azores or a road trip
Check the exact plan's coverage and network details for your itinerary. Ask support before buying if the island or network information you need is unclear. A country listing does not guarantee continuous coverage on mountain roads, inside buildings or at sea; download maps and bookings before travelling.
Portugal and Spain
Compare separate country plans with a Europe bundle that names both Portugal and Spain. Match validity to the whole route and check when it starts: an installation-triggered plan can begin before departure, and a first-connection plan can begin at a covered stopover.
Open the current plan's details before buying: check validity, activation timing, coverage, hotspot rules and any fair-use limits. Calls and texts are included only when stated for that plan.
🇵🇹 About eSIMs in Portugal
Portugal punches above its weight on mobile networks. The main networks are MEO, NOS and Vodafone. Some current plans list NOS and Vodafone, and a few add MEO, so check the plan details if you want a particular one. Expect strong 4G and expanding 5G in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, the Algarve and Madeira, and generally reliable coverage where most travelers go.
You will use Bolt (more than Uber in Portugal) for rides, WhatsApp for guesthouse hosts, and Google Translate for menus outside the tourist areas. 8–10 GB covers a week; two-week travelers with a Douro Valley or Algarve road trip usually want 12–15 GB. If you are combining Portugal with Spain or Morocco, a Europe regional plan is the better choice.
Airport SIMs at LIS and OPO exist but cost significantly more than an eSIM installed at home.
How to activate your eSIM in Portugal
- 1Time the installationCheck the selected plan's start rule. If it starts on its first network connection and allows installation before travel, install it over reliable Wi-Fi before you fly; if it starts at installation, install it when you need it. The QR code usually arrives by email within minutes.
- 2Enable in LisbonAt LIS or OPO, switch data to the Portugal eSIM and turn on Data Roaming.
- 3Install BoltBolt is more common than Uber in Lisbon and Porto — sign up in advance.
- 4Save Douro mapsThe Douro Valley has coverage in villages but signal thins on the winding vineyard roads.
Portugal eSIM FAQ
Which network does it use?
It depends on the plan. Some current Portugal plans list NOS and Vodafone, and a few add MEO. The plan details show the network where one is named, so check them before you buy if it matters to you.
Will it work in Madeira and the Azores?
Madeira is generally well covered. Azores coverage is strong on Sao Miguel and Terceira; smaller islands are patchier. Check the network your plan lists.
Does it work along the Algarve coast?
Yes, from Faro to Sagres including all beach towns and the Ecovia route.
How much data for 1 week in Portugal?
8–10 GB is comfortable for maps, Bolt, WhatsApp and social.
Should I get Portugal-only or Europe?
Single-country for pure Portugal trips. Europe regional if you also visit Spain, France or Morocco.
