    How to use hotspot and tethering with a travel eSIM

    Wanderly plans support hotspot and tethering, so you can share the travel eSIM's mobile data with a laptop, tablet, or another phone. The connected devices use the same data allowance as the phone.

    Tethering can consume data much faster than maps or messaging. Pause cloud backups, software updates, and high-resolution streaming before relying on a limited plan.

    Set up hotspot on iPhone

    1. Set the Wanderly eSIM as the Cellular Data line.
    2. Open Settings > Personal Hotspot and turn Allow Others to Join on.
    3. Choose a strong Wi-Fi password and connect the second device using the displayed network name.
    4. If the hotspot option is missing, confirm mobile data works first and check whether the APN also needs to appear in the Personal Hotspot field.

    Set up hotspot on Android

    1. Set the Wanderly eSIM as the Mobile Data SIM.
    2. Open Settings > Network & Internet or Connections > Hotspot & Tethering or Mobile Hotspot.
    3. Choose a network name and password, then turn the Wi-Fi hotspot on.
    4. Connect the second device and test a small webpage before starting a large download or call.

    Control hotspot data use

    • Set the laptop connection as metered and pause automatic operating-system updates.
    • Turn off photo sync, cloud-drive sync, and game updates.
    • Use standard-definition video and reduce video-call quality when possible.
    • Disconnect devices when they are not in use and check the Wanderly usage page regularly.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does hotspot use a separate allowance?

    No. Every connected device uses data from the same eSIM plan allowance.

    Why is Personal Hotspot missing?

    First confirm the eSIM has working mobile data. Some phones also require the plan's APN in a separate hotspot APN field.

    Can I use hotspot for video calls?

    Yes, but video calls can use significant data. Monitor usage and lower video quality on limited plans.

    Will hotspot work after a daily high-speed limit?

    It may continue at the plan's reduced speed, but performance will depend on the throttled rate and local network conditions.
