  1. Check your exact model and purchase region, look for Add eSIM in the SIM settings and ask your home carrier to confirm that the handset is unlocked.
  2. Compare your model and purchase region with the table below. A second IMEI can belong to a physical SIM and does not prove eSIM support.

Every Pixel 6 variant — the 6, 6 Pro and the later 6a — includes eSIM hardware next to a physical nano-SIM tray. Unlike the Pixel 8, this generation keeps only one eSIM active at a time, so the usual travel setup is your home nano-SIM plus a downloaded travel profile.

The Pixel 6 was also the generation where Google moved eSIM controls into Settings > Network & internet > SIMs, which is where the download option still lives today.

Regional caveats and limits

  • Only one eSIM profile can be active at a time on the Pixel 6; dual-eSIM arrived with the Pixel 8.
  • Some early Pixel 6 builds failed eSIM downloads over certain Wi-Fi networks — update to the latest Android release before installing.
  • Carrier-locked units will not accept a third-party travel eSIM.
  • Deleted eSIM profiles cannot be restored from the original QR code.

How to set up an eSIM on Google Pixel 6

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi and turn off any VPN.
  2. Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.
  3. Tap + and choose to download a SIM instead.
  4. Scan the QR code from your order email, or enter the activation details manually.
  5. Set the new line as your mobile data SIM and keep calls on the physical SIM.
  6. Enable Roaming on the travel line after you land.
